A Look Into the Healthcare Field

Professionalism and Leadership in the Medical Profession

For the past 20 years, medical schools and residency programs have focused on the development of professionalism and leadership in the medical profession. These qualities are important building blocks to develop a community of medical professionals that can work across different disciplines, collaborate, and communicate in a manner that enhances patient safety and quality of care.

The list of professionalism standards includes honesty, reliability, respect, compassion, empathy, self-awareness, communication, and collaboration.This list is not all inclusive. The candidate applying to a residency program regardless of specialty should be aware of what is required of them aside from medical knowledge and technical skills.

The TeleOSCE: A Clinical Simulation for Developing Telehealth Competence

Ryan Palmer, Head of Clinical Education Partnerships at AMO, discussed how clinical telehealth simulation, or the TeleOSCE, can be a viable approach to developing telehealth competencies for an emergent form of clinical care. Research in the United States

Speaker: Malke Asaad, MD

Dr. Asaad discussed the value of doing research in the U.S. as a medical student/medical graduate, how to find research positions, and expectations vs.reality during research fellowships/internships. During Dr. Asaad’s years of research, he has worked with leaders of the field, published over 100 publications, and participated in more than 80 presentations. He has multiple online courses to teach students how to do research and how to perform statistical analysis.
